This year will mark the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-Wisconsin) as an environmental teach-in in 1970, and is celebrated in many countries every year. Join us as we celebrate Earth Day in the Shoals.
The Green Tie Gala is was a great hit. Join us next year for an even bigger and better Green Tie Gala. We featured locally grown and produced food, enviromental education, and music by The Decoys. This event supports Shoals Earth Month which features varied educational events and fun, family -oriented activities such as birding outings, wildflower hikes, nature walks, story times, eco-themed symposia, renewable energy displays, Earth Month Concert, recycling opportunities, songwriters and organic wine tasting, tours of a local bio diesel facility, solar homes and revitalized historic buildings, movie screenings, wild flower planting, local food /organic / vegetarian cooking demonstrations, and more.
We would like to thank International Paper and the Marriott Shoals for their sponsorship and also all who attended our first Green Tie Gala.
You can read articles written about the event from the Times Daily here and here.
Awards were given out at the Green Tie Gala to individuals and businesses who were recognized for sustainable , Earth - friendly practices.
